ILL for Cite-Checkers

Most books and articles not available in Biddle, on campus, in Drexel's main library, or in pdf can often be borrowed through Interlibrary Loan (ILL).  Your Research Editor is the only person on each journal authorized to place ILL requests for the journal. It is your responsibility to provide the Research Editor with accurate information regarding the status of items not available.  Below is the minimum information you need to provide to your Research Editors for an ILL request. For assistance in working through your source hunts, see Merle Slyhoff, T-212, mslyhoff@law.upenn.edu

Reason you cannot provide source:

  • Item is "missing" from Biddle/Van Pelt/Drexel (item is in online catalog but catalog indicates "missing" OR item is not not on shelf when you go to get it even though catalog indicates it should be on shelf)
  • Item is "lost" from Biddle/Van Pelt/Drexel (catalog indicates Lost)
  • Item is "on search" (catalog indicates item is "on search" OR you asked the circulation desk to do a search. It is best to not hold up the ILL process while the search is being conducted. Get the "on search" information to your editor immediately; your editor will determine how long to wait before placing the ILL)
  • Item is "signed out" from Biddle/Van Pelt/Drexel (catalog indicates book is signed out/date due)
  • Item is available but cannot be checked out - Item is on reserve, rare books, or another location that cannot be checked out. When this happens copy relevant pages whenever possible rather than requesting an ILL.
  • Item is in Drexel but the LOCATION = LAW. You do not have borrowing privileges from Drexel Law Library or Hahnemann Library, only from the Drexel main library (Hagerty).
  • Item not owned (does not appear in Biddle/Van Pelt/Drexel catalogs; not available as pdf)

Below are links to each journal's individual ILL procedures.  If your journal does not have a link below, consult with your research editor for procedures.
