Federal Rules and Regulations

Pending Rules

In April and October, the Federal Register usually publishes the Semiannual Agenda of Regulations.  The Agenda announces plans for pending rules from all federal executive agencies during the coming six-month time period.

It is important to remember that, without a legislatively-imposed deadline, after the issuance of a proposed rule, there is no deadline by which an agency must issue a final rule.  The Agenda provides one window into where an agency is in the process.  More information may be available through OIRA.

All regulatory actions are subject to review by the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) of the President's Office of Management and Budget.  For more information on pending rules, see OIRA's website, RegInfo.gov.

All proposed rules have a comment period of 30, 60 or 90 days. To review proposed rules, see comments submitted by others, and make your own comments, see Regulations.gov.
