Pennsylvania Legal Research

Start here for an overview of Biddle Law Library's resources for researching Pennsylvania law.

Pennsylvania Trial and Appellate Cases

Pennsylvania cases are available to search on Westlaw, Lexis, and Bloomberg Law.

Pennsylvania cases are published in the Pennsylvania State Reports (KFP 45 .A2), Pennsylvania Superior Court Reports (KFP48 .A2; ceased after volume 456), Commonwealth Court Reports (KFP49 .A2), the Pennsylvania Fiduciary Reporter (KFP144 .A516), and in the Pennsylvania District & County Reports (KFP51 .A4 D55).

The Atlantic Reporter (KF135 .A7) also publishes cases from the Pennsylvania Superior Court and other Pennsylvania appellate courts.

Additional information on the Pennsylvania judiciary is available from the Administrative Office of the Pennsylvania Courts (AOPC).

Pennsylvania Statutes

Pennsylvania statutes are available to search and browse on Westlaw, Lexis, and Bloomberg Law. They are also available on the Pennsylvania General Assembly website.

Pennsylvania statutes are organized by subject in Purdon's Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes, Annotated (KFP 30 1973 .A44). Check the General Index at the end of the set to find laws on a given topic. (Note: Purdon's is in the process of being re-codified, and may be somewhat difficult to use. Check with a Reference Librarian if you have questions.) For other statutory sources, see the Pennsylvania Legislative History page.

Pennsylvania Regulations

Pennsylvania regulations are organized by subject in the Pennsylvania Code (KFP 35 1970 .A23). New proposed and final regulations are published in the Pennsylvania Bulletin (KFP 36 .P46).

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania publishes the Pennsylvania Code and Bulletin for free online at pacodeandbulletin.gov

Westlaw, Lexis, and Bloomberg Law all also offer access to Pennsylvania regulations.
