USTPO Resources

The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) registers trademarks and records documents related to trademark transfers and security interests. The USPTO maintains a searchable database of federal trademark registrations and pending applications for registration called the Trademark Search System. It also publishes the Trademark Manual of Examining Procedure (TMEP), a guide for trademark owners and counsel.

Federal Statutory Law

The Lanham Act, also known as the Trademark Act of 1946 (60 Stat. 427) is codified in Title 15, chapter 22 of the United States Code (USC).

Locate the USC using one of the official or commercial sources listed below.

Federal Regulations

Federal regulations govern how agencies like the USPTO must carry out the laws as they are set forth in statute. Finalized regulations are published in the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR).  Patent, trademark, and copyright regulations appear in Title 37 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR).
