Searching for Scholarship and News

When searching for scholarship on a particular topic, first answer the following questions:

1) HOW MUCH ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?

Is this a comprehensive search for all of the scholarship ever in the whole wide world? Or are you simply looking for one reputable article that may be cited for a particular point? This will inform your research strategy and organization.

2) WHAT TYPE OF SCHOLARSHIP ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?

Are you looking for books? Law review articles? Peer-reviewed journal articles? Working papers? Theses? These will be located in different resources.

3) WHAT SUBJECT(S) DOES THIS FALL UNDER? WHAT ARE SOME KEYWORDS?

We recommend brainstorming some useful keywords that you might use to search for articles, as well as identifying broad and narrow subjects under which the scholarship might fall. This will allow you to navigate databases and indexes with much greater ease.

Catalog Searches

When you have been tasked with locating a specific title, whether in print or an electronic form, the fastest way to find it is likely by using a library catalog (LOLA, Franklin, Worldcat). You might also try certain online resources, when appropriate, such as Google Books, the HathiTrust, and Amazon.
